Transportation Frm WDW to Central/Busy Part of Orolando -

We are not familiar with Orlando. Is there a main business/touristy part of City that can get to with

public transportation from WDW ? Many/Many years ago we stayed in Orlando close to Disney and drove to different areas. I don't recall if we were in a business or tourist area. Is there an area that we should try to see if we are staying on the Disney Property ? There is a good chance we will be too busy at WDW, but we do anticipate a day or maybe two of non planned WDW time.

The main business part of Orlando is definitely NOT touristy. Tourist Central is the International Drive/Lake Buena Vista areas. Downtown Orlando is approximately 13 miles away from the tourist areas.

Any particular reason why you want to go to downtown Orlando?

I was just trying to recall where we were many years ago ( there was a lot of activity and it may have been

" the International Drive/Lake Buena Vista areas") which sounds like an area where walking about might not be possible (e.g. we would need a car). We had purchased a number of monogrammed shirts, hats, watches are off Disney prices. I think there were small kiosks /vendors etc.

Just not sure what we should try to see if we wanted to explore outside of WDW without Automobile. Some cities have central areas (e.g. Loop in Chicago, Times Square in NY, Strip in Las Vegas) where you could navigate without a car.

The downtown Orlando is the business hub of the city. If you want to explore and go there, you should be able to get there by city bus (Lynx). For more information on getting around by Lynx, go to the Orlando forum, find "Top questions about Orlando" in the top right corner of the page and click on "What Bus Services can I use in Orlando?". If you do venture there, be sure to see lake Eola. http://tinyurl.com/lrvfstb

Honestly when we go to Disney (staying on site) we're so busy all we do is Disney and if we have a little down time (which we try to have a little every day, especially when it's hot) we relax at our hotel pool :)

Orlando Vic,

If we wanted to find tourist shopping areas (e.g. where they did sell Souvenirs , shirts etc,) , do you have a recommendation where we could go without a car ( on bus route to/from Disney). ?

There are a few shops at the Crossroads shopping centre in Lake Buena

vista which is about a 20 min walk from DTD , or for better discount shopping there are outlets also in Lake Buena Vista which wilst not far away would require a bus journey with a change of a taxi journey from DTD which would make it cheaper than from your resort

In addition, perhaps even the Florida Mall via Lynx bus. You will need to research routes per post #4 info.

Would this be walking along a highway or are there sidewalks/walkways of some sort ?
