We reserved a rental car on line with Thrifty Car rental at the Orlando airport. After waiting in line forever to finally reach the counter, I assumed it would be an easy process to obtain the car and be on our way. But no - the rental agent insisted we take the "optional" insurance and add-ons increasing our original cost by over $150 for the week. We told her that we did not want the insurance, we had insurance both through our auto insurance coverage and with our credit card, and she kept insisting that Florida had a "million dollar" liability requirement and that we were required to take the insurance. 3 different times we told her we did not want the insurance until finally she said, we could have it removed when we returned the car. I decided I would just call the 800 number and have the charge removed later so I went ahead and took the agreement and proceeded to the garage to get our car - which was not ready because they were still in the process of washing cars that had been returned. An hour later we were finally on our way.
The next day, I called the Thrifty customer service line and explained the situation, that I didn't want the insurance, and wanted it removed from the contract. They told me the only way that could be done was to go to a Thrifty rental center and have it taken off, they could not do anything over the phone. So the second day of my vacation, I spent time finding a Thrifty center and was finally able to get it straightened out. They still charged me the insurance for the 1 day we had it, so having it removed when we returned the car was a bunch of bull***, especially since our flight left at 7am, and I doubt that I would have gotten anywhere at that time of the morning, not to mention the hassle of doing that when you're trying to check in. NEVER again will I rent from Thrifty, I don't care if they are hundreds of dollars cheaper than anyone else! They're crooked, deceitful and lack customer service!
