weather forecast

We will be at Walt Disney next week and the weather forecast calls for thunder storms.

What happens to our Fast Pass bookings if the weather is not cooperating?

What are some indoor things we can do?

Almost everything is indoors, so don't worry too much. :-) Nice thing about rain, and even storms is that they tend to scare away some of the crowds. So if it's stormy, either stop at a cafe/restaurant or an indoor attraction and wait out the thunderstorm. If it's just raining without the "fireworks", then just keep on hitting the attractions, because far and away most things are indoors.

Off the top of my head the outdoor things that can be affected by inclement weather would be the Barnstormer and the new Snow White/7 Dwarfs Mine Ride and Autopia in Tomorrowland, all at the MK. At EPCOT, Test Track can be impacted. Etc, etc. Truly only a small handful of rides at each park can be closed to to weather as a rule. Have fun!

Well, there are many more outdoor rides than listed above, but that's not why I'm responding.

In summertime, it's very common to see forecasts of thunderstorms in Florida. Sometimes they can be listed for every day. This doesn't mean every day will be a washout.

If there isn't a storm system moving through the area, the forecast of thunderstorms generally means that some areas will get bored storms, usually in the afternoon or evening. It's a Florida thing; the heat and moisture combine to create these usually brief storms.

I had a beach vacation in southern Florida at the end of June. The weather forecast for every day said thunderstorms. Every day was beautiful and sunny. The sky started clouding up around 5 pm, it poured from about 6-7 pm, then it was dry the rest of the night.

If it's a totally rainy day, Epcot is probably your best bet, with Disney's Hollywood Studios a close second

Another thing about summer thunderstorms is that location, makes a big difference. From the Weather Channel website, so far for July 2014, Orlando 6.11 in of rain, but Walt Disney World 9.62 in of rain. I don't know if this is just luck or if the location of WDW causes it to have more rain.

There does seem to be more rain impacting people's trips this year (lots of people on facebook the past couple of weeks posted pics/videos of storms. This is another reason to get out early (most of the time the storms do come in the mid to late afternoon), especially if visiting a water park :)

Bring your device to the parks! Last week, we received emails when attractions weren't operating. The emails said that we could use our FastPass for various other attractions (in Epcot, basically everything except Soarin'), including the original ride, from the time of our original FastPass until the close of the park. So we could have done another experience that was still operating, but we decided to just hold out for Test Track and hope it opened again--which it did, before the window on our original FastPass even closed. Same thing with Kilimanjaro Safaris.

So you may get an email if an attraction is down, but it will probably reopen quickly and your FastPass should still work. Good luck with your planning...and do bring the raincoats even if the chance of rain is only 30%; we learned this the hard way!
