weather in December

What is the weather really like in December? Is it warm enough to go swimming and enjoy the beach without freezing? Thanks

It varies greatly and you really just have to check the forecast as your dates approach.

I have been down that time of the year when the temps were perfectly pleasant on the beach...and I have also seen it rather frigid. It's really a shot in the dark.

Regardless of the prevailing air temp, you can expect cold water (by my standards at least;) I have seen winter visitors from the north swimming during that time of year, but your typical southerner would stick to the heater pools and hot tubs:)

It's a very peaceful time of the year to be in PC...no traffic worries.

Scroll down at this link to see the average water temps, closest reading is Pensacola.

The wind right on the beach usually makes it feel colder than it is.

I've been for the day shopping when it was in the low 70's and in the 40's/50's. The time it was in the low 70's the fog rolled in late afternoon. It just depends on the weather patterns for the year. It is a great time...the only thing, some of the restaurants and shops are seasonal so they might be closed or close early.
