Is there still a shuttle bus to Cocoa Beach? If so, how often does it drop off and return cruise passengers to the port?
The local bus public service, Space Coast Area Transit (SCAT) runs a bus (disguised as a green trolley) from King Blvd., along the edge of the port, down highway A1A into Cocoa Beach. The problem with that is that the port bus stop isn't near any of the cruise terminals; rather, it's close to the restaurants and bars at the port (Glen Cheek Drive, also called "The Cove"). The SCAT schedules are at http://www.ridescat.com/maps/index.php.
However, Port Canaveral is in Cape Canaveral, which is adjacent to Cocoa Beach, so the distances among those places are all minimal. The drive from the Disney, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, and Carnival terminals down to anywhere in Cocoa Beach is direct and short, maybe 5-15 minutes, depending on how far south you are going. It's best to either take a taxi or telephone your hotel in advance and engage their shuttle. Some closer hotels have a free shuttle, others use a local service and charge a small fee, say, $6 a passenger.
The transfer from Port Canaveral to Orlando is another matter. It's 45 miles to the Orlando Airport, and shuttles or a pre-negotiated taxi rate are the way to go, assuming you don't want to rent a car.Edited: 26 March 2011, 10:19
Very a short cab ride but rental cars are cheap for the day if you want to move around a little.
Avis, Hertz, Budget, Thrifty/Dollar and Enterprise.
