haven't made a decision on accomodations... need help please

We will be vacationing in St Augusting in July. I have looked at so many different places to stay and have no idea where to book!

We want something near the old city, but ocean front (or at least ocean view). Will only be there a few nights, so prefer a nice hotel room/suite versus a condo.

Thanks!

I was upgraded to an Oceanfront Deluxe room at the Best Western St. Augustine Beach and thought it was fantastic. It was actually more like a suite with a hot tub that had its own TV and balcony facing the ocea.

Hi Crystal,

You can either stay on the ocean OR in the Historic District. The Historic District is not on the ocean. It is on a harbor which is separtated from the ocean and protected by a barrier island. The ocean is a five to ten minute drive away from the Historic District. The nearest hotel on the ocean is about three miles away from the Historic District. So you have to choose one location or the other. Take a look at a map and you'll see what I mean.

There are many B&Bs and motels and hotels and restaurants in the Historic District. Staying in the Historic District is logistically ideal because you will be walking around a lot to see things and you can easily drop back by your room to change shoes, or take a nap in the middle of the afternoon, or get the map you forgot, etc.

Look at the "Saint Augustine Hotels" reviews. You can choose categories like "B&Bs", "Best Value", "On the Ocean", etc. Note how many reviews the poster has submitted because frequently commercial establishments will pad review sites with many fake favorable reviews that they have made up themselves. This is the hotel site: www.tripadvisor.com/HACSearch…

Enjoy your visit!

As Spirit notes, the logistics of staying in the Historic District are attrative. If you stay in that area, the prime beach to visit might be Anastasia State Park, which doesn't allow vehicles on the beach, making it popular with shorebirds and barefoot runners. Elsewhere, parking on the beach is standard procedure (and quite well organized). The beach doesn't have a mass of condos and hotels (unlike, say, Daytona). Think of a fairly quiet, mostly-residential area.
