seeking nice place to stay right on the beach

we are coming down in july and would like to stay at a nice hotel on the beach. Does anyone have any ideas? We usually stay in fort myers at the Outriggers and just love the place right on the beach. My sister lives in homosassa and she said St pete's beach is better. Can anyone direct me to a nice hotel and the sights to see. if we can't find a nice comfortable hotel, we are leaning to go to fort myers again.

The Don Cesar is probably the nicest.

The Alden or any of the Tradewind properties seem to be comparable to the Outrigger. Lots of beach bars and restaurants. Walk or take the beach trolley anywhere. Make sure you take a trip to Pass-a-grille beach to hang out at the famous Hurricane Rest and Bar, shops on 8th AV. Don't miss breakfast at the Seahorse, a locals favorite, plan to wait to be seated on the weekends. Also, take a trip to the North end of the beach to hop the rest. and bars like Woody's and Philthy Phil's, shops on Corey AV. Blind Pass has a great Thai restaurant and Vito and Michael's pizza is awesome-keep following Blind Pass and it takes you straight to Treasure Island, Sloppy Joe's 2nd restaurant opened in the Bilmar resort there. The Don Cesar has a lot of history, nice to walk around in, however if interested in paying those prices, a stay at the Vinoy in St. Petersburg is by far better-their service and ambiance can't be beat.

Beach Cottages I II and III are beautiful condos. They're located in Indian Shores....down the road from St Pete. These are nice condos with a beautiful gulffront view of the beach. We stayed in BC I but make sure that you are not facing the seacoast bird sanctuary because you will not get gulf front.

You can't go wrong with these.

The Sirata and the Tradewinds Sandpiper are good resorts

The Don Cesar is pretty, but very expensive, small rooms.

If you want something spacious and value for money try the Gulf Gate Resort. 1 and 2 bedroom condos right on the beach.

I agree with Sciallas - Gulf Gate resort is a fantastic value for the money - very spacious condos right on the beach. So much nicer than any of the hotels on St. Pete Beach. There is a guy who rents wave runners and umbrellas/chairs right on the beach - very convenient to have. Crabby Bills restaurant is next door - Vilage Inn for breakfast across the street.

We had relatives stay at the Don for a wedding not too long ago - rooms were unbelievably small for the money. It's a beautiful hotel, but not very practical.

Hope you have a great stay!
