We have just returned home (Vermont) from Sanibel. Of all the interesting things, was last Friday night (10/14), we went down to the beach, out from Pointe Santo, and were able to see the Space Shuttle launch! Over 160 miles away, but we were able to see the bright orange flame from the liquid tank. Then as it burned out and the solid rockets took over, it changed to white. We were able to watch it as it climbed, but it was heading east and was down below the horizon after about a minute. Something to think about if you happen to be there on a clear night when there is a night launch scheduled. For you lucky ones still there, you might be able to see the shuttle on it's home flight. Sometimes it passes over that section of Florida.
