Snorkel from the beach?????

Can you snorkel off the beach in Sanibel?

yes...you can snorkel from the beach....however, the water is not so clear due to the bottom....this does not mean that water quality is bad, it is just the type of bottom that surrounds Sanibel. The beaches at Captiva would be better for a snorkel or head to Cayo Costa.

There's not much to see off of Sanibel, there are no reefs. I do bring my mask and snorkel to look for shells though, it's a great way to find some hidden treasures!

Unless you're really trying to save space in your luggage its probably worth throwing your mask and snorkel in. Like Bean said.......there isn't much to see but if the water cooperates you can occasionally find some nice shells outside the surf line - just don't expect Caribbean type snorkeling.
