Sarasota to Orlando airport

HI we are out in florida in November two 50+ couples. Have a villa booked in orlando for a week and then heading down to Miami and the everglades for 4/5 days, before moving further up the gulf coast. Would Sarasota be a good base to stay for the last 4/5 days of our holiday, not looking for a beach necessarily but enjoy getting out and about and exploring the area. Also wondered if this area is ok for a drive back to Orlando airport for a 6.15 pm flight home. Have looked around st petersburgh and clearwater and it seems quite expensive. Would possibly book another villa/apartment as a base. thanks

I think you would thoroughly enjoy this area. There is plenty to do in addition to beautiful beaches. It will take 2 1/2 hours to get to Orlando airport from Sarasota..depends on traffic on the Interstates.

We have museums, parks, art galleries, boutiques, botanical gardens etc. There are many day trips.

You will run out of time before you run out of things to do.

We stayed in Sarasota for 5 days a couple of years ago. It is a great area with plenty to see and do. We stayed in a villa (booked via Owners Direct) and the drive down from Orlando is about 2 hours.

Hi,

We twinned Orlando with Sarasota 3 years ago and loved this area, beautiful beaches, great shopping and restaurants. The drive took 2 1/2 hours.

The drive should be an easy one. With a flight at 6:15, you'll probably have to be at the airport by about 4:00 or 4:15; that means leaving Sarasota at 1:30 or 2:00. You'll be ahead of rush-hour traffic.

November is a quiet time of year here, with few crowds and off-season rates. The beaches are definitely a plus for this area, as is boating, fishing, kayaking, etc., and the weather in November should be excellent (May and November are my favorite months here). But as mentioned, there are many attractions other than the beach including Ringling Museum complex, a botanical garden, theaters, symphony, ballet, opera, etc. St. Armands Circle is an collection of 120+ upmarket shops, downtown has boutique shops and galleries, and all around are many terrific restaurants from which to choose.

How much did you want to spend per night? That would help with options.

The Hotel Ranola is an apartment in downtown Sarasota that was converted into a hotel.

There are others....would you want 2 units or one 2- bedroom unit for both couples?

Rates will not be as inexpensive as Orlando which has a huge supply of rentals.

Just looking for a villa/apartment for us all to share, had hope for around £80/100 per night, owners direct have some villas but as I said wondered the best area around sarasota. Are hotels expensive per night, what would we expect to pay?

Hotels have a wide range of prices. Are you saying you want to pay 80-100 pounds per night per couple or for both?

You could consider a 2 bedroom condo unit, but many want to rent for 1 week.

Something like a Comfort Inn etc. would be less expensive than a Holiday Inn.

If you like to walk around then you culd consider something in the downtown area.

I'll look at options now that I see your price range.

ou could also post on the Anna Maria Island/Bradenton forums.

Not sure where those units were on Owners Direct..do you have addresses?

Although it is a little over your budget, the Ringling Beach House on Siesta Key would be a nice placve to stay with the beach across the street!
