One day trip

Hello everyone -

We'll be visiting Orlando in 10 days and would like to come down to Sarasota for a day. We've heard amazing reviews of Siesta Key Beach, so we've decided on this one.

But..... now what?

Is there a certain area of the beach we should aim for? How is the parking situation? And if we dont' want to spend the entire day literally on the beach, how's the shopping/restaurant/strolling situation around there?

As you can see, we're novices to the area, so ANY advice is much appreciated.

Thanks!

The parking area (free) for the public beach should have plenty of space during the week day. Chances are also good for parking on the weekend unless it is a special holiday weekend.

I'll wager that you WILL want to spend the entire day there. There is a snack bar/seating pavillion with restrooms. Or bring a picnic lunch with you - stop at a supermarket deli or you favorite fast food place and pick up something.

On the beach itself you might want to have a beach umbrella as there is no shade on the beach.

You can stroll the beach - it goes a long way. There is also the area called the Siesta Village (5 minutes by car up the road) with bars and restaurants.

Yep...Chuts is right on all counts...It will take you at least 2 hours (one way) to get here. from Orlando. The parking area at Siesta Key Public Beach is large and free. Exit I-75 at Bee Ridge Rd. and go west.
