Clearwater is about a 20 Minuit drive away, but if you don't mind visiting a beach that is on the Bay instead of the Gulf there is one on the Courtney Campbell causeway.. I think its called Ben T. Davis beach...You can get some more info at http://tampabayonline.us Hope you have a great visit to the area even if it is a bit brief:)

If you will have a car, I would head to Clearwater Beach. It is about a 30-35 minute drive. Very nice beach with alot to see and do. Fun, casual restaurants right on the beach, beach bars, shops etc. Late afternoon will probably take you longer to get back to the airport, than it took to get to the beach, so keep that in mind if needing to catch a flight.

Ben T. Davis beach (on hwy60 just West of the airport) is close enough to take a cab, about a 8-10 minute drive. But, it is on the bay, so it doesn't compare at all to the gulf beaches, but it is alot closer. It's a much smaller beach along a highway. But, you could enjoy the beach and sand, and hit Whiskey Joe's for lunch or drinks (it's at the East end of the beach). It has an outside deck overlooking the bay.
