family visit 1/21-1/24

We will be in Tampa 1/21-1/24 with two seven year old boys. We are flying into St Pete/Clearwater and have booked a rental car. Will be staying at the Doubletree Westshore. We decided against Bush Gardens and instead will be doing MOSI (probably on Saturday). Other than that we have not figured out other activities. I have read that the Childrens Gasparilla festivities will be going on 1/22. I am not sure if this is something worth going into down town for - traffic, parking etc. I would love to see the fireworks though but wonder where the best viewing location is. Also wondering about doing something in Clearwater. Suggestions for places to each would be welcomed as well. We will be looking for casual, but not typical kid eateries. Would love to get some good seafood one night. Also, any options for boat rides that don't cost a fortune?

Thanks!

Other things to consider:

The Monster Jam truck show will take place at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa on 01/22/11. There are still tickets available, and the kids would probably love it. Also, you may to consider Lowry Park Zoo or the Florida Aquarium.

Thank you, great ideas! Do you have a recommendation for a restaurant in the area of the pier for good seafood? We have had difficult experiences on beach vacations where we get poor seafood. Would love some place that the locals enjoy.

Frenchy's Rockaway is quite popular for casual seafood (known for she crab soup and grouper sandwiches). It is located right on the beach a short walk from Pier 60.

For more upscale dining, Salt Rock Grill is quite popular. Closer to Pier 60, Carretta's at the Sandpearl Resort is a popular upscale restaurant as well.

The boys would love the Great Explorations museum in St. Pete. It's a hands on type of place where you can play with the exhibits. Even many adults would find it interesting.
