Mariott Waterside -- what to see & do nearby

My spouse is attending a convention in late November and will be staying at the Tampa Marriott Waterside. I am debating whether I want to tag along, since it is a long flight cross-country and the airfare is costly. I will not have a car, I will be “touring” by myself during the day, and I am wondering: (1) what is there to see and do within walking distance of this hotel, (2) is the weather hot enough the last week in November to spend some time lounging poolside and (3) are there any swimming/wading beaches within walking distance? Thanks!

No "any kind" of beaches in walking distance. But there is a nice compact shopping/dining area called Channelside about 1 mile away. You can even take a streetcar to get to it. The streetcar goes past Channelside for a further mile to an area called Ybor City - the original cigar making area of Tampa that is now nightlife central. While it comes alive at night it is also good for a daytime stroll. There are two restaurants there that you should go to for dinner plus any number of bars for a nightcap. The Columbia restaurant has flamenco dancing at dinnertime while the Greek Acropolis restaurant has belly dancing at dinnertime.

Another dinnertime dining option with hubby is Jackson's Bistro on Harbor Island, just across a short bridge from the hotel.

And you can always walk around downtown Tampa and along its riverwalk. Late November will be excellent weather to be outside. The oppressive Summer heat and humidity will be long gone.

You can also go to the Florida Aquarium which is adjacent to the cruise port which is adjacent to Channelside. The streetcar passes right in front.

1) The Tampa Bay Times Forum is next door in case you want to look for a concert/event.

Channelside is an entertainment district and walkable. Restaurants, bars etc. http://www.channelsidebayplaza.com/ Also at Channelside: http://www.flaquarium.org/

Ybor City is a nearby historic area. Also one of the main nightlife and entertainment areas of Tampa. Kind of the "Bourbon Street" of Tampa (Except it's called 7th Ave)

You can catch a trolley near you hotel that goes to Ybor City, so no car needed. http://www.ybor.org/ http://www.yborcityonline.com/

2) Hard to say. It can be in the high 70's/mid 80's, or it can be a little chillier. Depends when the cold fronts start arriving, and if one might be here at that time. But, odds/averages are, it will be warm enough.

3) No beaches in the area. Nearest beaches are about a 40 minute drive West, Clearwater Beach, and St. Pete Beach are the two closest major gulf beaches.
