Tampa with 3 teenagers

Coming in from MN and staying overnight in Tampa (old Tampa area) July 31 before spending a week on Anna Maria. Want to do something fun with the kids before they are with their younger cousins for the week.

Budget is an issue so low cost ideas are appreciated (Would love to do Busch Gardens but decided to feed the kids instead!). Wanted to go to the electric co to see the manatees but just found they aren't open that time of year.

There's many different directions you could go on this depending on your teenagers interests. Obviously going to visit any one of the beaches, ie St. Pete Beach, Clearwater etc would be free but if you are going to Anna Maria island for a week I'm assuming you'd want something other than the beach. There are places such as the Lowry Park Zoo, Florida Aquarium and Big Cat Rescue which are all neat spots to visit however they come with an admission fee. The zoo would probably be the cheapest of that group. There is many state parks as well in the area ranging from Hillsborough County to Fort de Soto, with only a small $5 entrance fee. Another option, depending on time and if you feel like going for a little drive would be Weeki Wachi. You can rent kayak's or canoes and travel down the 7 mile crystal clear springs water where you may encounter manatees. Lastly you could always just walk around and visit places like Madeira Beach (John's Pass), Channelside or Ybor city which are all free but probably wouldn't eat a lot of time up. Hope this helps and welcome to Tampa!
