Beach renourishment project

Just read about the beach renourishment project that started this weekend. Will the Treasure Island beaches, specifically near Bilmar, be affected by this through July 17? We are there 10-17. Thanks.

You are probably here now, or close to it, but the beach at the Bilmar will not be part of the renourishment project at all. It is pleeenty wide enough already!

I thought maybe it meant adding sand on top of the crushed shells to make it feel nicer.

Guess not?

No, it is done to widen the beach, mostly for more protection from storm surge in the event of a big storm, and secondarily to make the beach more appealing for the sake of tourism. On TI, only Sunshine Beach (the northern section of the island) and Sunset Beach (the southern part) are scheduled to be renourished.

We're here now and it's directly in front of Sand Pebble and apparently they are having trouble with the equipment so they are going to be here a while. You can go up or down the beach a bit and get away from it but it does make either end near the replenishment area more crowded. Its pretty far north of the Bilmar but anyone traveling to or near Sand Pebble should be advised.
