Trip Idea

We are thinking of going to Jekyll island in late November or early December this year and have a few questions.

1 - What will the weather be like and will there be things we cannot do that time of year?

2 - Is there any entertainment such as comedy shows or concerts in the area?

3 - What do you consider can't miss attractions?

4 - We can fly into Savannah or Jacksonville. As far as the drive to Jekyll Island, are there recommended attractions on either route that may be good to and is one drive easier.

Thanks in advance.

1) Should be pleasantly cool in the evenings, and around 65-70 during the day

Unless you like a 60 degree ocean, swimming in the surf might be tough!

2) The nearest entertainment or concerts would be in Jacksonville-- about an hour away. St Simons Island is close by and may have some degree of entertainment

3) Depends on your interests. We have enjoyed a day trip to both Cumberland Island and Sapelo Island-- both beautiful and full of history. You can reserve a tour on Sapelo where they take you around on a bus. Cumberland is great, but involves a lot of walking.

4) See # 3. Both are on either side of Jekyll. It may be just a bit easier to fly to Jacksonville, as the airport is north of the city.

You will want to fly into Jacksonville.. The prices are much better than Savannah. It will be about a one hour ride north on I95. Jekyll Island is a very laid back Island full of nature and bike rides and visiting the Turtle Center and quiet evenings. You can walk the beaches but swimming will be too cool. St Simons Island has more to do but still quiet. St Simons has more restaurants and has a night club (sort of) Ziggy Mahoneys. Both Islands are family oriented and beautiful with Live Oaks and Spanish moss and great nature ie gators. There is a sense of wonder about the place and a wonderful friendliness of the people here. If you want more activities you might want to go to Jacksonville, Amelia Island or Savannah.

Check out Amelia Island/Fernandina Beach area. Has a historic downtown with lots of restaurants and bars plus the beach and Fort Clinch SP that you might like to tour. Also some boat tours of the area. DE's are excellent and can give you lots of suggestions.

Enjoy your trip.
