any restaurant ideas for the area. I've got a few from the forum: Westside drive in, donnie macs and cottonwood grill. any other ideas? That are not a chain and not real expensive. On a budget.

What are the ale houses like? noticed a few.

There's a pizza joint called Lucky 13 that is a Boise icon. They are moving this week from their current location in Hyde Park (north of downtown) to a brand new building out on the east side of town (Harris Ranch). They plan to re-open in the new space Sept 5th. I'd say a must visit for great pizza, good atmosphere & unique Boise flavor. Try the Camel's Back Pork if you like spicey sausage!

i myself, think that they are moderate...not cheap, but we split 2 appetizers and split the entree, plenty and they have great bread. A plus for me. Great drinks , as well...enjoy

i see that you asked about ale houses. The Red Feather owns the one just next store. you can look up the name.

There is a great place in Bown Crossing (end of ParkCenter before it turns into Boise Avenue in the East End) called Flatbread Community Oven. Really delicious sandwiches, salads and pizza. There is also a a cafe called Kesslers in Bown as well that I've heard is good, and also The Tavern is new there and offers Steak and Sushi - it's always PACKED as well as the Flatbread Oven.

For breakfast, you MUST go to Goldy's on Capital Street. near Main. They usually have a line on weekend mornings, but it's worth the wait. Their Eggs Benedict... mmmmmm.

Italian, try Asiagos. I think it's on Main or Idaho. Best Italian in town, in my opinion. There is also Gino's that I have liked. They are on 8th Street, in between Main and Idaho.

Japanese, try Shige's - right next to Gino's. OR Happy Fish, in BoDo. Also Zutto's on Main, close to 6th Street. We have some GREAT Sushi here in Boise!

Asiago's and The Tavern will be slightly higher end on prices but everything else is pretty normal/moderate.

Ale Houses, try the Ram's ale house on Broadway and Park Avenue, really close to BSU Stadium. Bitter Creek Ale House is popular as well. For just a great bar, stop in at the Reef, on 6th and Main, upstairs. They have great music and a rooftop patio. Pair is great as well, on 6th and Main as well. They are more of a Lounge, but very fun and casual. For a cheap, fun dive bar - hit up the Broadway Bar on Broadway and Boise Ave.

Have fun!

thanks Jamie for all the tips. You gave us a lot of ideas and great choices. Our daughter and son-in-law are expecting their first child, so I don't think sushi will be on the menu for them. It would be for us. we love it. But you did give us other options.

They just moved to Boise. And have been exploring the area. Finding new places and great rides.
