Driving from MN to Portland in Sept

Hello- My husband and I will be driving through in early-mid Sept to help our niece move to Portland. Looks like CDA would be a beautiful place to stop for a day or two.

We are in our late 50's, enjoy photography, hiking and viewing wildlife. Do you have suggestions for us? We have never been to this part of Idaho. We enjoy staying at B&Bs or a cabin.

Also, does anyone have a suggestion on a route from CDA into Portland? Would it be best to go I-90- 395- I-84? We will be heading to the NE portion but hope to explore more of the city.

Many thanks for your help.

pascal, I'm sure the Idaho people will weight in on places to stay there.

What I can tell you is the best way and easiest way to get to Portland is through Spokane you hook on to I 90 in Couer d'Alene and then on to Riitzivlle and then off onto highway 395, from there you hit Oregon's 30 and that takes you into Portland and it's a very scenic drive.

If you take the route recommended by k2kelley, you will drive through the Columbia River Gorge and you can take a side trip and see the many waterfalls. Highly recommended.

The website for the waterfalls is great.

My suggestion for a B&B that may just fit both your criteria (they have a Tree House room) is the American Country Bed and Breakfast http://americancountrybedandbreakfast.com/.

As a local resident of Coeur d'Alene my husband and I stayed there for his birthday. We enjoyed dinner in Coeur d'Alene and then enjoyed our evening and next mornings breakfast at the B&B.

For a large list of B&B's in the area please check out this site: http://nibba.com.

The suggestion to check out the falls was an excellent one. We always stop on our way to Portland :)
