New and fun?

I noticed the last post about Sandpoint was two years ago. We're going for several days to work next week and staying through weekend; open to recommendations for food and the best things to do. My father lived in this area briefly as a child and so I've heard stories about the lake and how beautiful it is.....

It is a beautiful area, one cautionary note is that there is a major road construction project going on in Sandpoint to create a bypass for US95 in town, so allow plenty of time if you are driving up from the south on US95. Depending on where you are coming from you may want to consider alternative routes using Highway 2 from the west, US 95 from the north, or Highway 200 from the east.

The restaurants most people frequent have been reviewed on this site.

Great area for day hikes, the chamber visitor center located just north of downtown or the U.S. Forest Service District Ranger station can give guidance. Some snow still at higher elevations

There is a nice boat cruise.

Schwietzer Resort usually may have something going on.

Thank you! We're coming from Spokane, will arrive about 6pm. Appreciate the driving tip. Any off the beaten track things not to be missed / not written up here? (sights, music venue, food, lake access points) We're on a limited budget for expenses, so places the C d'A hotel are probably not on the list for dinner.

Here are two specific suggestions

A very close easy great day hike is the Mineral Point Trail on the Garfield Bay area south of town. Great views of the lake. Additional info: fs.fed.us/ipnf/…mineralpt82.html

Laughing Dog Brewering is fairly new to Sandpoint, might be worth a stop in you are interested in small breweries.
