Best source of information about Trans-Labrador road closure

Just by accident, I learned that the Trans-Labrador has been closed on and off for a month.

Can anyone suggest where I can easily get up-to-date information on the closures? Strangely, the NL government transportation site doesn't cover it on their 'Alerts' page, which seems devoted to 3-month old snow conditions and moose warnings. And the incessant emails from the NL tourism department aren't helpful.

I've been checking the online newspapers, but the information isn't up to date and they suggest calling tollfree numbers which we can't access from the States, and the same transportation website that hasn't been helpful.

Ideas?

Radio reports here in Newfoundland have been saying that traffic is traveling through with escorts. Sounds like one lane only open and some delays. This info is about 5 days old.

So, are you thinking that the radio has the best info? The local newspapers and the CBC aren't keeping up to date. If it seems that only escorted vehicles will be permitted, we might change our plans. Our plans are to do some exploring, not interested in a very long drive in convoy.

From what I understand the road was closed due to forest fires. An escorted convoy may be your safest (and only) option. From what I've read the convoys were stopped for a while for safety reasons. Maybe a different choice for a vacation this year?
