Neighbourhoods to stay in

Hello,

We are planning our first trip to Chicago and aren't quite sure what area of town to stay in. We have a few places we want to go to in the Lincoln Park Area, and also near the intersection of cermark and canal street.

Are either of these neighbourhoods safe places to stay? We're not familiar with the city, so we want to make sure we stay somewhere safe! We won't have a car and will be taking transit, so we want to be somewhere where it's ok to be walking back to the hotel from the subway at night.

Any suggestions on what areas to look at?

There are very few hotel choices in Lincoln Park - a Days Inn and a couple of other properties. There are many more hotels, much more inventory and a better chance at getting more of a value staying downtown. It is also very easy to get to Lincoln Park via public transit from downtown. You can also get to near Cermak/Canal via public transit.

If you can provide dates of travel and budget, I'd be happy to provide hotel suggestions.

Lincoln Park is very safe to stay in.

There are many people that own condos and single family homes that rent them out to tourists, you may want to try craiglist or just google chicago vacation rentals.

I know of a few nice places in the Lakeview/Wrigleyville neighborhood that are very nice vacation rentals.

Cermak and Canal is much different, I would not recommend staying there.

Many subway lines in Lincoln Park , Lakeview area.

Thanks for the reply!

We will be visiting in October (mid-october), and ideally our budget would be $100/night, but I realize that may not be reasonable. Probably up to $130.

Yes, we don't necessarily need to be right in Lincoln Park, but areas that are quick and easy to get to and from there would be good!

Your specific dates will be critical to recommending hotels, particularly since the Chicago marathon is October 12. If your stay includes that weekend, hotel bargains will be difficult to come by.

You'll need to bump up your hotel budget. There's a 5000 person conference at Navy Pier and a 7200 person conference at McCormick Place. Both begin on 10/16.

You didn't say how long you're staying, but you might like the City Suites hotel in Lincoln Park.

gtahotels.com/hotels/…

Their website shows $136 for Thursday, $147 for Friday, and $171 for Saturday. The total for the three nights including taxes and fees is $537. Parking is extra.

It gets good TA reviews. …tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g35805-d235385…
