How long at Hancock? Millennium?

Trying to plan a day with out of town relatives. We're first heading to Navy Pier and doing the combo lake/river Boat Ride, having lunch probably at Billy Goat, then walking to the Hancock. Plan to get there on a Tuesday abt 2:30-3ish. About how long should we plan to spend there. Is an hour enough? you go up look around and go down I don't remember anything else to do there.. Then we're going to walk down Michigan Ave to Millennium Park. Am planning on about an hour there to walk around see the Bean and Faces.. Sound doable?

Obviously their stay is limited, so trying to see & do as much in a day as possible.

Sounds doable. Obviously let the weather be your guide. Have a Plan B in case of inclement weather.

Yes, doable. But honestly a lot. If I were you I would consider skipping the Navy Pier and boat ride thing which is very touristy and instead do the Architectural Society Boat Ride and the Hancock and Millennium Park. We take so many foreign guests around the city, and what they seem to love, assuming they know English, is the Architectural Boat Ride and Millenium Park. Hope that helps some. Lunch at the Gage across from MP.

You could opt for a drink in the Hancock Signature Lounge instead of going up to the deck. It mght be a nice break, and if it's sunny, that great view will be even better. More than beers gets a bit expensive, but still cheaper than admission to the deck, I think.

Mill. Park is just across the street from the Chicago Cultural Center. That's always a treat for us...

Find myself agreeing with zabriskibound regarding the boat ride.

As for the Hancock Building, the walk you are talking about to it from Navy Pier is going to take you about half an hour. And a similar amount of time to walk to Millenium Park.

Personally, I would probably reverse the order, and go a bit later in the day. The reason, I like watching the sunset from the JH observatory. You get two who different view of Chicago that way. But beyond that rationale, you are right, not a whole lot to do from the observatory other than to look out. Even still, I always include it among the must-sees things to do (prefer it over the Willis Tower, formerly known as Sears Tower, even though it does have some other things to do beside looking out the windows) when I am escorting friends who are new to the city. And after all these years, I never tire of it.

Admission to the Hancock Observatory: $15. A Long Island Iced Tea in the Signature Lounge: $15. For my money, I'd do the Lounge.
