Special Occassion Input

I am hosting a retirement dinner celebration for my husband on Dec 3rd and am holding reservations at Coco Pazzo and Il Mulino for 8 people. We are staying at the new Public Hotel (we could not get dinner reservations at Pump Room). Which restaurant will

provide the best initimate, fun, special night with great food of course?

We will also be looking for a fun nightclub to hear music/dancing after dinner if you have any recommendations...for middle aged, but fun people :)

Both are good. Il Mulino tends to be more formal than Coco Pazzo but at the same time a much more intimate and memorable setting. I would pick Il Mulino. No dancing, but take a look at the Back Room for Jazz.

Il Mulino is in the old Biggs mansion so has a different atmosphere than most restaurants; cozier, clubbier, broken into smaller dining rooms and elegant. Coco Pazzo is cocktail informal and large loft/warehouse style dining room. (don't jump on me for saying "warehouse", it's original, old brick and timber interior has its own charm.) Z's suggestion of the Back Room is good http://www.backroomchicago.com/ It's within walking distance of Il Mulino and a short cab ride from Coco Pazzo. You might also look at the reviews for NoMI and Siaggia which are in the area and a bit more on the romantic side of dining. Lawry's Prime Rib might also be a choice.

Il Mulino is very formal and you pay for it. It is more romantic. Coco Pazzo is one of the few places serving true Italian not Italian American food. It has great food and is a little more fun but still fairly quiet. The above mentioned Spiaggia is great but it will be about $250 a person if you do not live it up and can be a lot more. I have had good luck with Prosecco. It is fairly formal but not stuffy and the food was very good.
