Traditional Italian restaurant?

Am looking for a traditional Italian restaurant to go to during my Christmas-News Year's Chicago visit. I remember the restaurants in Rome where the kids were welcome to run around, the waiters were friendly, and the tortellini was served with ham and peas. Any suggestions? I'm staying downtown, and would be interested in a restaurant there or maybe Little Italy?

Coco Pazzo is one of the few places serving traditional Italian food but it is a pretty nice place and slightly formal. La Scaola was a good suggestion. The only place I would go in little Italy would be Tuffanos, but it is not easy to get to.

What do you guys think about Quartino's??... I choose this one, as they have small plates, but they have home made pastas and the dishes sound pretty authentic?? ... mind you, its also 1 block from my hotel, being much more convinient than the others...

Personally: I don't think much about it. Tourists seem to like it. Convenience is a factor but you can fined better within walking distance.

Consider getting out of downtown and hit up a neighborhood spot. http://www.anteprimachicago.net/

My data point is two years old but I did like it when I went. However, I wouldn't consider it traditional. If you like what the menu offers, then eat there.

Club Lago in River North is my favorite.

La Scarola is also very good

If you want to eat in Little Italy, try Tufano's
