Second City

We will be in Chicago in May and would like to go to Second City. I did a search on here but a lot of the posts were 4 or 5 years old. Is the dinner/theatre a good idea? Which restaurant? We are staying at the Amalfi on Kinzie St.. Can we just take a bus to the show or is it better to get a cab? Any other advice you can give me would be appreciated. Thanks

1. Re: Second City

It's about a 15-20 minute bus ride from your hotel to Second City. The bus will get you within two blocks. Otherwise a 10 minute cab ride.

Many dining options near SC. www.chicagoreader.com and www.chicagomag.com are good online dining resources. You can read restaurant reviews and search by area, cuisine, budget etc. Use Old Town as your search area.

In addition - please type Second City Dinner in the search box above. Others have posted similar questions.

Adobo Grill is next door and a good place. corcorans is across the street and has very good pub food. If you want more upscale Perennial Virant is a ten minute walk away.

You can walk down Wells street where SC is located and just look at the menu's at all the restaurants. There are a few italian restaurants, french, middle east, sushi, mexican, steaks, etc.

There are a lot of good place a short walk from Second City on Wells. The above mention Adobo. Trattoria Roma. Bistros Margot. Orso's has a great outdoor space if it is warm. Topo Giggio has good Italian food. Salpicon for upscale Mexican. A bus will only save you $3 or $4 so take a cab.

No one mentioned Twin Anchors. Old-school tavern and lounge with the best fall-off-the-bone Chicago-style ribs & sauce in town (IMO). A few blocks west of SC on Sedgwick & Eugenie. Corcoran's is good for a drink before or after the show.
