Hello! We are coming up for the day to shop (34 yr, 50 yr and 60 yr) and I want to check out a great spot for lunch, preferably no where traditional like Jimmy Johns or Giordano's (not that we don't like those places because we LOVE them) but we want somewhere different/fun to brag about :)

Heaven on Seven on Rush might fit your bill perfectly - it's unusual, not expensive, laid back, and close to the midpoint of Michigan Avenue shopping.

119 reviews If you Love Jimmy John's and Giordano's then you might try the Grand Lux on Ontario St, 1/2 block west of Michigan Ave. or the Cheesecake Factory in the lower level of the Hancock Plaza.

How about the 95th floor of the Hancock? They have an reasonably priced lunch--terrific views. Another nice place is the Peninsula--you can sit outside on their terrace--again, lovely views of the surrounding skyscrapers.
On Michigan Avenue: Purple Pig (be prepared to wait, but it's fantastic and definitely unique and "brag-worthy") or Bandera (on the second floor at 535 N. Michigan, with windows looking out onto Michigan). These are near the main Michigan Avenue shopping. Further south on Michigan (near Millenium Park, so fairly close to State Street), I love Terzo Piano and The Gage.

There is there version of a food court on the 7th floor with your choice of snadwiches, salads, burgers, asian or mexican food. The Mexican place is a Rick Bayless outlet and the tortilla soup is amazing. Also on the 7th floor is the Walnut Room where you can also have a sit down lunch. At either dining option on the 7th floor at Macy's try to secure or ask for seating near the window and watch the street scenes below.
As for Michigan Avenue, I love Bandera so if you can spend more like $15 and up per person for lunch then go for it. Otherwise Macy's is more in the $10 and below range at the food court.
Just got back, I vote Purple Pig There will be a wait but keep your on the bar, it's first come If you don't need a table. beside the cooks are right there, like a live menu.. Don't miss the broccoli salad portions are not large so you can try several extremely different things....Handcock is reasonable and tremendous view
I'm thinking we might hit up the Lux! Looks like it is right smack in the middle of our shopping route :)
Any suggestions on dishes from the lux?
