First Timer: City Pass and Trolley

We were considering buying both for our three day visit. We'll have a car and thought we might buy a hop on hop off for one day.

IMO - for a three day visit, pick one or the other, not both. You need to crunch the numbers as to the cost of the pass vs individual admissions of the attractions you plan to visit.

You don't need a car here. Park it when you arrive and use public transit to get around.

http://www.transitchicago.com/ for public transit information. There's a trip planner tool on the home page. You'll get around to the attractions much quicker using CTA rather than HOHO. CTA Fun Passes should be considered.

Thanks; we've been looking at the architectural tours (water ones. My husband is an architect and I am very interested too. We want a longer one; is one better than the other?

The tour from CAF is the best - http://www.architecture.org/page.aspx?pid=574

If you look at the Chicago Go Card you will see that the Hop On/Off Trolley Tour AND the Architectural Boat tour are both on it. The Trolley is good for the entire time... you can purchase 1, 2, 3 days on the card depending on what you want to do. I would look at the 26 things that are included, then look at each website and see what they would cost individually. Some of the things on the card can be done in a short time frame. The Hancock , SkyDeck, Adler, a Lakeshore Cruise...all could be done in a day or day and a half. If you decide to go that route, heres a discount code for an extra 7% off. wowsave7
