Live Bluegrass or Old Time music

Please can anyone recommend any place we could hear some live bluegrass, oldtime or folk music in Chicago? We will be there from 26th Sept. - 28th Sept. We also appreciate craft beers.

Do you have any plans to visit Oak Park, say to see the Frank Lloyd Wright Home & Studio (and/or Unity Temple)? If so, you could ime your visit for Saturday and stop by the Oak Park Farmers Market beforehand. There is a live bluegrass band (just locals) who play there every Sat. from about 9-11 am. And, be sure to eat some of the homemade doughnuts, if you do visit.

Bluegrass is not a Chicago style music. Are you, perhaps, thinking of Blues? Blues and a jazz are Chicago music styles.

i really wish we had more folk and bluegrass venues and concerts around here...

i think your best bet would be the old town school, as mentioned....

or this, which i just found, and would love to check out:

looks like you'll be in town for the next gig..and it's right off the purple line......

once upon a time, the old town school hosted several big shindigs, one being the chicago folk and roots festival during summer, which has since go defunct.... and they hosted an all nite folky party during the cool months, but not sure if it's still going on....

Thank you for your reply. That is a really good idea as we do intend to visit the Frank Lloyd Wright home and studio.

Here is a link to the Website for the OP Farmers' Market, oak-park.us/our-community/oak-park-farmers-m… If you decide to take public transportation to Oak Park, take the Green Line El and get off at the Ridgeland stop, which is one stop before the "Oak Park" stop. They are only about 6 blocks apart but Ridgeland is closer to the Farmers Market.

It is about a 3/4 mile walk from the Farmer's Market to the FLW Home & Studio. Depending upon the route you took, the walk will take you past Unity Temple or the birthplace home of Ernest Hemingway. (If you have any curiosity about Hemingway, he attended the high school that is across the street from the Farmers Market and there is a small fountain in front of the school in his honor.)
