Tourists with Baggage

Hi Guys

I'll be traveling in a party of 4 with 4 large cases.

Will we fit in a single taxi (going to Hyatt Regency on Wacker), would rather take a taxi that carry the bags on the train.

Thanks

Paul

The largest taxis we have here are mini-suv's. I suspect that you won't get everything into one taxi.

If they are on wheels, it really is an easy journey via the train from Ohare to downtown. It's all elevators/escalators to get to the train and there are not steps to haul luggage up once on the train. It's all flat. You can wheel on very easy and once downtown, you can even wheel easily to your hotel, it's fairly close.

The taxi starters at O'Hare are used to this. They will call the taxi lot fo the largesst taxi available. As Dave hints; the taxis are getting small as they go fuel effecient. On the train, one bag per person is not bad. It really depends on the time of day you're arriving or leaving. The Blue Line trains start at O'Hare so you will be boarding an empty train with your luggage. It is best to sit at the end of the car that you're in so people don't have to navigate around and/or over your bags. The Clark/Lake station is an elevatored station so you will have no trouble getting to street level. The walk from the station to your hotel is very easy and not at all far. You'd be surprised at the number of visitor who tote their luggage down the streets to and from the trains.

Hope you had a good trip!!

So my question is why are tourist taking a train from the O'hare airport then taking a additional $10taxi to hotel ???

If we are a family of four what is the cost of the train from airport to downtown? We will be staying at embassy suites north Columbus Drive. Is this hotel walkable from the train?

Depending on where your hotel is located, the train from the airport doesn't stop nearby. For many hotels downtown, we advise visitors to take the train to Clark/Lake followed by a quick taxi ride to the hotel. The blue line from ORD runs primarily through the business district of downtown. Not many hotels within walking distance of the train.

Train from ORD is $5 per person. $2.25 for the return trip to ORD. Cab from ORD to your hotel will be around $60, depending on traffic.

Please review the CTA link I gave you in your other post.

Thanks Dave! Why is it $5 from ORD but return is $2.25?

So a family of four $20 plus cab $10 is $30 still half the cost of the cab the e tire route,

My children will enjoy being on a train as well.

The base fare on CTA trains is $2.25. When the agency needed money a couple years ago, it added a surcharge on trips originating at ORD because many of the riders who board there are non-residents who can't/won't complain.

Interesting.. So family of four $50 total return (train and taxi from end of train route to hotel)

Compared to $120 cab return

Fair savings worth while Im sure for many travellers.
