From Buffalo to Indy

Looking to assist a friend in a move to Indy from Buffalo. They are looking to stay in near the theatre on Washington but want to live in a very progressive growth oriented bohemian area. Any help...oh and the locations of Indy's best beer bar will help for my visits.....

Not quite sure how to answer that. I'd guess the theatre on Washington you refer to is Indiana Repertory Theatre. Lots of hotels within a block or two: Conrad, Hyatt, Marriott, Westin, Embassy Suites, Canterbury, Hilton - basically anything downtown would be with a block or two.

As to a "very progrssive growth oriented bohemian area" - you do realize this is Indianapolis they are moving to? Joking aside, what is their price range? Actually lots of options, especially downtown which might fit their bill: Lockerbie Square and Chatham Arch both have renovated houses and new construction (condos). Woodruff Place just east of downtown has a more bohemian feel and lots of big old houses, Irvington is about 15 minutes east of downtown and has more of the same. Meridian-Kessler, Old Northside, and Broad Ripple are all north of downtown and are similar but pricer and more established.

As for places with great beer selections, check out Chatham Tap and MacNivens on Massachusetts Ave., right in the middle of Chtaham Arch neighborhood.

Very helpful, and I will share the joke with them...Price range would be modest. I am assuming they will end up in a basic two bedroom flat in the 6-800 range.

The woodruff place would be very reasonable due to the neighborhood. Enough said. The irvington area is much better in my opinion. The prices would increase due to the neighborhood also. If bohemian means lots of crime then woodruff would fit the bill. For beer the broad ripple area Chumley's has over 50 beers on tap. Many others to choose from in a three block area. Hope this helps.
