nightlife-dinner downtown for father and 21 yr old son Sat

Coming this Saturday. looking for a fun ideas for a father son trip to indy before he goes back to college. we are playing golf at The Fort on Saturday and in an outing on Sunday. We like live music, breweries, and casual food. We will be getting a room downtown. Any ideas would be great!

IMO the best place in downtown Indianapolis for live music and casual food is the Rathskeller. A visit to the historic building it is housed in is worth the trip in itself. There is live entertainment in the Biergarten outside. I believe this Saturday there is a Blues band playing. The good thing is there is usually a wide range of different aged people who frequent the Rathskeller so you and your 21 year old should both feel comfortable there. Although the Rathskeller is not a brewery it offers a very wide selection of beers. They range from German and other European beers to a large selection of American crafted beers from around the country. The Rathskeller is probably just outside of walking distance to any of the downtown hotels(just barely) but no matter where you stay it would be a very short drive.

Rathskeller Biergarden is fun even if the food isn't that great....also beware parking can be hard to find sometimes since not within walking distance. Another idea is the Slippery Noodle (blues bar) and Howl At The Moon dueling Piano bar. I also like The Ram Brewery, Alcatraz Brewery (might be closed now not certain), Rock Bottom brewery has a great Fish & Chips made with Salmon yummy but I'm not a big fan of their beer.

Sounds like you would enjoy Scottys Brewhouse.

The link above only has one review, but you can search for reviews of their other locations. While not downtown, Broad Ripple has LOTS of what you are looking for. Also, Mass Ave.

I recommend you walk around Mass Ave and Broad Ripple. Window shopping these two locations will guarantee you find a place you like.

I would recommend getting dinner on Mass Ave. Then check out Rathskellers or Slippery Noodle. Mass Ave has a handful of casual places to eat, I really liked MacNiven's and Bru Burger. Avoid Old Point Tavern. Mesh on Mass looked nice, but didn't try it. Raths is cool because of the beer garden. Slippery Noodle is cool because of its diverse history...used as a bordello once, Dillinger's gang hung around there, etc. Can't go wrong with either one!

There are not a lot of live music venues Downtown. The Murat Theater tends to host very large, well-known acts and typically has shows most nights. It's not a place where you can just drop in and watch a band though: tickets are usually at least $20. Very nice place though. One place though is the Slippery Noodle, a historic blues club near Lucas Oil Stadium. They have live music almost every night. If you go north though, there's the Jazz Kitchen, which has live jazz almost every night. Across the street from there is Twenty Tap, which has one of the best tap selections in the city and has, IMHO, very good food. There are a few other clubs in the Broad Ripple Village area that also have regular live music. Locals Only, just east of Broad Ripple, usually has music on the weekends. Additionally, in the Fountain Square area, there is the White Rabbit and Radio Radio, which both regularly host live music (usually rock). But it's certainly not every night.

There's a very comfortable, fairly new and laid back brewpub on East Washington called Black Acre. They have limited food but a very good tap selection. I would also suggest Flat 12, which is a brewery just east of Downtown where you can get free samples or pints. They have a great outdoor area and get food trucks on the weekends. Very limited hours though.
