Where to take a 5 yr old

Am planning a family vacation to Indianapolis in June of 2007. We have a daughter that will be 5 by that time. We were wondering what activities there are for a 5 yr old to do. We know about the Childrens Museum and the Zoo, we are looking for some other things to do with her. We are planning a 4-5 day stay.

Thanks for all you help

Here are a couple of ideas:

Rent a pedal boat on the canal downtown:

Visit Conner Prairie, an outdoor history museum at nearby Fishers, that is fun for all ages:

A few more ideas:

Stay in one of the Pullman Train Car rooms at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Indianapolis Downtown Union Station (depending on whether your daughter likes trains or is afraid of them). I have often admired this hotel but haven't ever stayed there. It gets good reviews on tripadvisor. It has an indoor pool.

Take a carriage ride in the downtown Indianapolis area:

Eat some great ice cream at one of the Indianapolis-area Ritter's Frozen Custard shops.

There is also the IMAX theater and the Indiana State Mueseum that has a lot of kid friendly exhibits. These are located by the zoo and the canal previously mentioned.

Good suggestions above, but definitely don't miss The Children's Museum. The adults might have more fun than the 5 year old. Remeber that The U S Grand Prix will be in town the weekend of 6/16and 17 so the hotels will have inflated rates then

There is a Museum of Miniatures. I haven't been there, but this looks like it would be great for a little girl. (The hours look a little limited, so be sure to check the times if you decide to go.) http://www.museumofminiatures.org/

Trader's Point Dairy can be fun for kids. The milk and ice cream are great, and we happened to be there to see the cows come home!

Besides info about Indiana children's book authors and other neat things to learn about Indiana, this site also lists library kids' events. After days filled with activity, the story times or free public showings of kids' movies might be a much needed break!
