Advice on regions in portugal

Seven of my oldest girlfriends and I will be turning 50 next year and want to go somewhere to celebrate. Last night we determined that portugal is a place new to all of us, that a week at the end of April is the time that will likely work best for all schedules and that we'd like to rent a self-catering house somewhere. I'd welcome any suggestions for regions / towns that we should consider staying in that time of year. Both sea and mountains are appealing. Several of us are quite active cyclists or hikers and none of us need much city time. Any thoughts about to focus the search a bit would be much appreciated.

A few questions:

Where will you fly to and for how long are you coming?

Will you rent a car or depend on public transportation?

Could fly into anywhere, but likely Lisbon . Whether we'd have a car is a good question. I suppose we would, we could get a van or something if we could all of us mad the driving wasn't too difficult.

If you fly into Lisbon you could make the area around Sintra (1/2 hour West of Lisbon) your base. Sintra itself is an Unesco Heritage with beautiful nature around. You can hike and cycle all the way to the ocean. parquesdesintra.pt/en/….UViuP3BBp0o

If you could fly into Porto you could look into the Douro valley

Also around Lisboa, with mountain and sea views, it's the Arrábida park, you can do your base at Sesimbra. There are companies that organize hiking and cycling days at Arrábida. portugaldailyview.com/whats-new/arrabida-a-p…
