daughter interning at local horse farm... time off?

My 22 yr old daughter is interning at a horse farm off man o war blvd, and will have limited time off. We are not from here (texas by way of auburn) and wonder what kind of activities she might find fun when she needs to unwind? unique shopping? Bookstores? events between now and dec? good websites?

Joseph Beth Bookstore is a must for anyone who likes books and likes to browse. It is in Lexington Green close to New Circle and Nicholasville Rd. The Woodland Arts Fair is always in August and is a lo of fun. They have great art and it is a nationally recognized arts fair. It's great for people watching too. It is in Woodland Park off High Street not far from downtown. Close to the park are some unique shops like Black Swan Books and The Black Market (hip clothing). She should check out Topsinlex.com for events and ideas of things she might like to do. There should be a Gallery Hop at some point in Sept. and that is always a good time...dowtown art galleries open their doors and you go from one to another, drink free wine, look at the art, mingle...get hungry and then go eat a good meal downtown at Mia's, Bistro 147, Bellini's, Le Deauville etc. Another thing she should check out is the Lexington Cemetery...especially in the fall when the colors change. It is absolutely beautiful. Also in the fall Keeneland will be running the horses and the scenery is wonderful and most people love going there. Hope this helps.

Joseph Beth Booksellers is a fabulous bookstore (consistently rated in the top 5-10).

The Gallery Hop is always fun and draws a young crowd.

Does she like to hike? Raven Run is about 10 minutes out of town.

Clay Ave has small local shops. On Winchester Rd. Worlds Apart has an outlet store. They have clothes unlike what you find in the malls. Their store at Lexington Green is very expensive but great bargains can be found at the outlet.

You guys have already helped so much!! We had a wonderful time at Joseph Beth - what a wonderful bookstore to get lost in. Afterwards went to the movie and then to the British Pub outside. Great day! Thanks for your advice. We may try to find the farmers market today as well.

Movie tavern is a unique movie experience that I enjoy. It is off Richmond rd and close to downtown...you can eat a meal and watch a movie all at the same time.

There are also some local wineries that you can have lunch/dinner, wine taste, and take a tour of the grounds.

Applebees park off of Broadway has Lexington Legends baseball games that might be of interest. Other events are often held there as well. UK Football/basketball games! :)

There are many historic homes to tour as well. Lexington is only about an hour from Louisville and about an hour from Cincinnati so if you want to the venture in either of those directions there are other assortments of things to do.

Oh another thing in KY that I personally enjoy is going downtown to the farmers market on saturdays. She might not enjoy it as much as I do but I love fresh homegrown fruit and vegi's!

Jacobson Park on Richmond Rd offers paddle boats and other activities!
