HullabaLOU Music Festival - July 2010 @ Churchill Downs

Our family of 4 (including 2 teenage boys) want to attend the festival this summer.

First, where should we sleep? We are arriving on Friday and attending the Saturday, 2nd day shows. We will depart Sunday to drive to Indianpolis for the NASCAR race.

Is the traffic REALLY that bad after the concerts? Not organized? Should we try to stay within walking distance?

Also, does anyone know where the best place to sit would be for the main stage? Would the front of the grandstand be too low or too far away to see anything?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. We are driving down from Toronto Canada so we will have a car.

Holiday Inn Airport and Hilton Garden Inn are a little over a mile away.

Any downtown hotel is convenient to public transportation. Tarc (bus), or taxi. www.ridetarc.org.

If you stay downtown, there are many things to do to if you are looking for more than the concert.

Try Lynn's Paradise Cafe for breakfast.

We have many great bed and breakfasts in Old Louisville that are convenient to public transportation. The Old Louisville area is a beautiful area with Victorian Homes. If you have time, take a stroll down Bardstown Rd. Antique/one of a kind shops, great restaurants, music shops. Your boys will like this area.

I suggest you stay in the nicest place you can, drive to Fairgrounds and take shuttle bus from there. You can't stay within walking distance to Churchill Downs. You wouldn't want to even if you could. Not the best neighborhood.

Use the hotel ratings associated with this website to find a good place.

Many people park at The Fairgrounds and walk over for the Derby and Oaks races and there are several hotels. Those hotels at Central and Crittenden Drive would certainly be close enough to walk. Our local Police Department does a great job of slowing traffic down and/or not being present and logical big events that you may well be ahead of the game if you DID stay in one of these spots. While there are lots of great things to do here in Louisville- I think your schedule will, more than likely, leave you with very little time other than the Concerts - so my advice is to stay close by.
