I haven't seen or heard any mention of fireworks. They generally happen twice a year: for Schooner Days & on July 4th. You can check out 2 different calendars of events online at http://www.boothbay.org/bbc_events.php and also boothbayharbor.com/calendar.aspx

Right now, there are a variety of pre-Holiday happenings. This weekend you can see the Gingerbread Spectacular & Festival of Trees at the Opera House, Harbor Lights Festival, enjoy a Victorian High Tea at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, a small (art) works sale in Wiscasset & Polar Express train rides.

Hi londonNh,

Not much goes on for New Years in Boothbay Harbort though I think some of the restaurants run specials. Check the Thistle Inn, 93 Townsend, and McSeagulls to see if anything is planned. And also check www.boothbayharbor.com (the local Chamer site) for possible happenings.

With that being said, BBH is beautiful this time of year. Quiet, gorgeous sunsets that are different than during the summer months and even better. Sea smoke rising above the water depending on the temperature. Snow covered scenes as pretty as a picture postcard. A cozy atmosphere in town with a few restaurants and shops open here and there open.

This is the time of year to take nice long drives throughout the peninsula and enjoy the sights without traffic; visit the Botanical Gardens and have lunch at their wonderful little cafe or walk the trails of the Boothbay Region Land Trust; drive to Damariscotta (a 25 minute scenic drive on the River Road) and shop local at Reny's, Sheepscot River Pottery, Stars, etc. Then enjoy lunch or dinner at the Damariscotta River Grill or King Eider's Pub right on Main Street.

Take a drive down to Pemaquid Light and enjoy the dramatic views out to sea, along with the crashing waves.

Overall its a magical time of year to be in BBH unless you're the type that likes lots of action and hustle and bustle. If that's the case I suggest you head to Portland where there's plenty going on 24/7!

Good luck with your plans and if you'd like recommendations on where to eat, stay, etc. post again and I'll try to help :).

Happy Holidays!
