Might be fun to combine your lobster with a short boat cruise. See http://www.cabbageislandclambakes.com/

Would this clambake be appropriate for children? We are going to be in BBH July 15-22 and this sounds like fun but I don't see a children's price and thought maybe it was an adults only activity? Our children are 7 & 8 and are generally well behaved and used to dining out and trying different things. Thanks for any info!

Went to BBH last July and will be there again later this month with kids, ages, 7,7,12 and 12 (cousins) and we will go to Lobster Dock again for seafood on the deck, Kahler's for lunch inside and where the kids can see the touchtank on the dock, Red's Eats in Wiscasset for a lobster roll of great portion. We will also go to the Maine Aquarium for the kids to see and hold sea creatures. Plan a picnic at this place as the ocean view was great. Our kids also enjoyed spending some of their allowance money at Sherman's in town, on books and trinkets. The kids also enjoyed the seal watch boat trip. Enjoy!

Hi gmfarmer,

Lobster: The Lobster Dock on the east side; Lobsterman's Co-op further down the same street; or my favorite, Robinson's Wharf just over the Townsend Gut bridge on Southport Island.

Gourmet: I wouldn't say there are really any super gourmet restaurants in BBH. But the more upscale ones offering nice food are the Spruce Pt. Inn; Thistle; Newagen Inn; Lawnmeer; Ocean Pt. Inn or the Rocktide.

Just outside of BBH there is the Damarascotta River Grill right on Main St near Reny's, a 25 minute ride.

Lupines at the Newcastle Inn on the River Road, a 20 minute drive.

Robinhood Free Meetinghouse in Georgetown, about a 45 minute drive south.

Uniquely Maine: Ebb Tide is a small, rustic, good stuff cheap sort of restaurant. It's great for breakfast, burgers, chowders, and offers some of the best desserts in town.

Most Fun: For a lively bar scene, casual atmosphere, good food, and live music, check out McSeagulls. It sits right on the water and has great views of the harbor.

Great place for breakfast or lunch; The Blue Moon Cafe downtown BBH and on the water; or The Center Cafe near the monument in Boothbay Center.

Have a great vacation in BBH and post again and let us know how everything went :).

Hi gmfarmer, best place for

Lobster - The Lobster Dock, you can pick your own or watch one of the lobster cooks pick one for you. We tend to like larger lobsters because you can eat the 8 little legs and knuckles and there is actually meat worth going after in a 2-3 lb one. No bigger doesn't mean tougher also. If you have kids ask them to show you a big one and have your picture taken with it, they always seem to do that while were there and actually have fun doing it.

Gourmet - The Thistle Inn, although they are under new ownership as of May and just recently have a new Chef I have not heard that anything has changed. The Spruce Point Inn's 88 Grandview dining room and yes The Rocktide has a formal area where gentleman need jackets.

Uniquely Maine - I'm surprised the local expert from Cozy Harbor missed this one - Pratt's General Store on Southport. Don't be in a hurry as everything is prepared ticket by ticket. But you won't get any Mainer than that. (Ebb tide may have the atmosphere but the portions & prices are ridiculous)

Most Fun - Boothbay Harbor Ice Cream Factory right downtown.
