How is the traffic mid week in the first week of June travelling on Route 1 from Brunswick to Ellsworth?

Local traffic will be what it always is, tourist traffic will be light. The busiest local traffic will be in the area from Brunswick through Camden.

Should we take an alternate route or stay on Route 1. Is it really that bad in June from Brunswick to Camden?

If you want to get from Brunswick to Camden, there really isn't a simple alternative route. I'm not sure how you got the idea that the traffic is "really that bad." "Busiest" is a relative term---what you will see on Rt. 1 in early June is nothing like what you face all of the time in Orlando. Relax.

If you want to go to Camden, there is an alternative. Take Route 90 in Warren, it by-passes Rockland and re-joins Route One just south of Camden. Having said that, Rockland is a nice town too and you'd probably only save 15-20 minutes or so.

Touring24 pointed out one alternative; another is to take the interstate to Augusta and Rt. 17 to Rockport. With the Maine Atlas and Gazetteer and a good navigator, or someone who really is adept with a GPS, there are many permutations and combinations. Nevertheless, none are going to save you that much time, distance, or stress relative to taking Rt 1 at that time of year.

If it helps ease your mind --

Mid-week traffic on Rt 1 is always lighter than weekend traffic;

Mid-June traffic is always far lighter than July-August traffic;

Alternate routes probably won't save you enough time to be worth the effort that time of year.

Relax and enjoy the ride....

If you haven't been on Route 1 between Brunswick and Ellsworth and you have the time to take Route 1, please by all means do so. It's gorgeous right now and the traffic midweek in early June should be very light.

Taking route 90 in Warren bypasses Thomaston and Rockland if you need to shave some time of the drive.

Enjoy!

If time is the single most important factor, then catch the interstate in Topsham.
