Belfast is an hour and a half from Acadia and Camden is two hours. I would spend one night in either place and then come up to Bar Harbor for two nights and spend the day in Acadia.
Would agree with lovingbarharbor..... Go from Portland to Bar Harbor and spend your three nights (giving you two full days) in Acadia.... you can explore Camden on your way up and Belfast on your way back, or vice-versa... But limiting yourself to one day for Acadia/Bar Harbor, including the driving time from-and-back-to either Camden or Belfast is doing yourself (and Acadia National Park) a real dis-service. Or, if you really can't to that, take lovingbarharbor's suggestion and spend one night in either Belfast or Camden (my personal preference would probably be for Camden, but nothing wrong with Belfast either) and two nights in Bar Harbor or other town near Acadia.
We love Camden. Heading there again in October.
We're heading to Camden & Ba Harbor next Tuesday for 6 day....can't wait. Got lots of good information on these posts. Thanks everyone!
This is a question rather than a reply. Which town has more restaurants/bars, Camden or Belfast?
In my opinion, it's Camden with the most choices of bars and restaurants. One of our favorite places on the Maine coast.
There are restaurants along the water, one of our favorites for years is Cappy's Chowder House, up the street from where we stay. Great Happy Hour and good food for lunch or dinner.
Would appreciate your lodging recommendations for Camden and Bar Harbor.
Thanks to CAnative for the info. May just do a week in Belfast then, and the other 5 weeks in Camden. Cheers.
Good sides to both places. We love Camden & Cappy's chowder, for sure. The coasts are beautiful. They are close enough together to exlore bothplaces. We like shopping so enjoyed both. at at both. Stayed in Camden because of a previous recommendation. I'm not helping much, am I? You can't go wrong with this decision.
