Saw a lot of signs on the way out of Ogunquit toward York for lobsters, $4.99/lb. Sorry can't remember specific names but you can't miss em.

Second the recommendation of Chauncey Creek Lobster. It's a haul from Ogunquit, but a very pretty drive through some lovely parts of Kittery. http://www.chaunceycreek.com Make it part of a trip to the Kittery outlets or the Stonewall Kitchen Factory Store or to Portsmouth, NH.

About the same distance, but to the north is Cape Pier Chowder House in sweet little Cape Porpoise. Lovely, lovely area, sit at picnic tables outside with a lighthouse in view. www.capeporpoiselobster.com/t-capepier.aspx On the way to or from see the Bush family summer home at Walker Point in Kennebunkport. Also in Cape Porpoise is Nunans, indoor dining if the weather turns ugly on you. tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g40694-d38…

Anywhere right in Oqunquit is going to be touristy and likely crowded.

Another +1 for Perkins Cove. Nice spot for an outdoor lunch

If you want to travel a bit up towards Portland, theres a better spot for an ourdoor lunch on Cape Elizabeth

Its a nice drive up the coast through Kennebunkport, OOB, etc. We make a day trip out of it at least once a summer, if not more

Don't expect to pay the market price when you go to a restaurant - you only get that when you take them out and eat them from a fish market or Lobster Pound. The cheapest Lobster you will get in a restaurant will be at lunch when they are trying to get customers off the beach.

Local news reports that the lobstermen are getting record low prices for the catch. Many are selling direct off the boat and skipping the middleman.

Also, remember that in August you will be getting soft shell lobster- big on the outside, little on the inside.

My personal preference is never to eat lobster inside or in a restaurant that has tablecloths or real plates. They are just too messy and you need to be able to splash around a bit without worrying.

Chaunceys or Beach Plum will be perfect for you. Both are outdoors at picnic tables.

Just heard this weekend that Chauncey's is BYE - bring your own everything -

They encourage you to bring a picnic backset with appetizers wine and side dishes - table cloth or whatever - they just supply the lobster and the picnic table

You decide the rest!!

ENJOY

Definitely going to try that one on my next trip
