We're trying to plan our holiday to the states in September/October this year. We plan on leaving NYC on 12th October for Boston. We originally were thinking of doing a 3 - 4 day tour to Niagara Falls but after some of the very helpful feedback from the Forums we've decided we'd be spending more time travelling on buses or trains than actually spending at Niagara and that most of the tours are a bit dodgy. So now we're thinking of basing ourselves in Boston, seeing the sights around the city and maybe doing an overnight trip to somewhere in Maine along the coast. I believe you can train to most places but once we arrive at our destination we don't want to have to have a car to see the sights.
Can anyone recommend a coastal destination that we can reach by train and maybe suggest a good B&B (there are 3 of us) or Hotel at that location.
I believe fall in Maine is really beautiful. Would going by train allow us to enjoy great scenery?? or would we see more if we travelled by bus?
