Grocery stop Boston to Ogunquit

Looking for a place to stop for a few provisions en route from Boston to Ogunquit. Just looking to pick up some snacks and adult beverages.

If a grocery store is in the same vicinity as a place to stop for lunch, all the better, Not a fan of fast food like McDonalds,. Pizza, sandwhiches etc would be great.

Also is there a scenic route, maybe through York we could take. I'd love to get off Rte 95 at some point and take a route by the water or something scenic for the last leg.

Thanks!

if you want a full service grocery store, there is a big Hannaford at the York exit. Search for 440 Route #1 5 Hannaford Dr, York, ME 03909 on Google Maps. It's really easy to get to.

If your lunch budget isn't tight, head over to the lovely cafe at the Stonewall Kitchen Store‎, 2 Stonewall Lane, York, ME 03909 stonewallkitchen.com‎ In fact, you might stop there first, pick up some speciality food items, then fill in holes after at the Hannaford.

This is where you'd get off I-95 for Ogunquit anyway, so when you finish lunch, just head up Route 1 to Ogunquit, or look for signs to Route 1A and take the shore route.

if you're not looking for the full service grocery store, wait until you get into Ogunquit and hit the Village Food Market, 230 Main Street, Ogunquit, ME, villagefoodmarket.com, smack in the middle of town. Assuming you can find a parking space. It's a lovely market/deli with take out food and a grill, so you can kill two birds with one stone. The baked goods there are very good, some of my favorite scones in the state.

Another alternative is to get off 95 at Exit 2 into Kittery Maine and follow route 1 into Ogunquit thus taking you by the Stonewall Kitchen store.

Or from Kittery follow into York Beach and take the shore road into Ogunquit, this will bring you into Ogunquit near Perkins Cove.

Both ways will add time to the trip and personally its really not a long ride from the Boston to Ogunquit.

I get from the Saugus Area into Ogunquit in about an hour give or take.

Route 1A would be a great little side trip unless you're talking about doing this in the height of summer (July August) when the stretch at York Beach might be choked with traffic. There is lovely colonial architecture at the southern end of that loop, a long stretch of beach in the middle, and just as you're finishing that long stretch of beach, do not miss the turn off to the right to go to the Nubble Light House-not directly on Route 1A, so keep an eye out for it! http://www.nubblelight.org/ You might want to stop and rummage through the beach-front stores. Nothing fancy, just your typically beach fare. After the lighthouse your drive turns rural with only occasional views of the water and you drive by lovely homes and rolling meadows until you sneak in the back door of Ogunquit. If you have GPS or a map, definitely bring them as it's twisty/curvy and easy to take a wrong turn/get lost.

The Hannaford's mentioned above is a great stop for anything you want to pick up on your way to Ogunquit, including liquor, wine and beer. If you run out during your stay, the Village Food Market right in the heart of Ogunquit carries a lot of good food. They don't sell liquor, but they do sell wine and beer.

Our routine has always been eat in Kittery on rt. 1, love Bob's Clam Shack or Weathervane, or Flo's hotdog stand way up near the Ogunquit /York border. Then check in at our b and b or motel or hotel to make sure we have a good refrigerator working and adjust the temp. to cold. Have a nice dip at the ocean. then make a run to Wells Plaza up rt. 1 which has a Hannaford, pizza, movies, and more. The store in downtown Ogunquit is okay for a small list, but it can be pricey for a long list. Sometimes getting the food before u reach Ogunquit can be an issue for keeping meat or milk products cold if the traffic into Ogunquit is bad, up to a mile or more from the center on weekends, especially at night when folks are coming into town.
