Side Trips From Ogunquit

We have been to Ogunquit twice in the last four years and we are planning to hop up again mid September. We stay at Juniper Hill as a base. Reasonable $$, clean and great location.

Any suggestions for day trips?

Willing to drive 1.5 to 2 hours one way especially if it is a scenic route. Did Freeport four years ago; Portland and Peaks Island last year. Have not been to Boothbay Harbour for forty years so would that be an option? Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Karen

Boothbay Harbor would be about 2 hours from Ogunquit. If you go, stop at Reds in Wiscasset for a great lobster roll. Freeport for outlet shopping is a good option. Harpswell is a beautiful area and Cooks Lobster House is nearby on Bailey island.

Then south, there is Portsmouth, where you can take a boat trip over to the historic Isles of Shoals

Further south right over the NH/MA border, is Newburyport, a great little town for walking around and visiting Plum Island and the Parker River National Wildlife Sanctuary.

Enjoy. September is a great month to visit!

Have you visited Kennebunkport? Shops and restaurants are in the Dock Square area. Ride along Ocean Avenue to see Walker's Point owned by the Bush family. Then travel along Route 9 to Cape Porpoise (more good restaurants) and Goose Rocks Beach and Biddeford Pool.

Have you taken a drive from Rye New Hampshire to Ogunquit via Route 1A? It's a beautiful drive with some breathtaking views. Kennebunkport is another lovely side trip and a very short drive from Ogunquit.

Some great ideas, thanks.

We've been to Kennebunkport and Walker's Point and the Route 9 points of interest.

Also York, Nubble Lighthouse, Stonewall Kitchen. Some are worth a repeat

Will check out some of the other suggestions.

Mid Sept is a nice time to drive around the lakes regions. You could visit the Sebago Lakes area, or from Wells head out route 109 through Sanford to Shapleigh and up around Lake Lovell Road into New Hampshire and back south down route 125 for some good ice-creaming. Don't miss Shain's Ice Cream for one and Ted's Fried Clams.

HaroldandMaude's idea was exactly what I was going to suggest. I wish I'd said it first, lol :) It's an excellent suggestion, and a little change from ocean scenery, beautiful though that is.
