Downtown/Old Port summer parking availability

We're staying at the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown for two nights (Thurs-Fri) this summer, and the hotel charges $15 per night for parking. Wondering if we can spare ourselves the valet fee by confirming if 1) it's (relatively) safe to park on the street near the hotel, 2) parking is readily available, and 3) is metered or not. Thanks in advance for the insight!

Street parking is metered 8:00am-6:00pm, and you can't get away with feeding meters. So, you could park overnight but will have to find someplace else to put you car during the day (as well as keep track of which nights there is no overnight allowed, which alternates.) There are garages/lots nearby that would be less than $15 if you want to explore that. See map, hotel is across from #7

Just a heads-up that parking is at a tremendous premium in the area, and you'll find many lots/garages already filled. There's a reason they get away with charging that $15/day. (Have you stayed at a hotel in Boston or NYC lately and see what they charge?!)

That's very helpful, thanks. BTW, I work in Manhattan, so I expect to pay $15/hr. here, and when you think about it that way, $15/day is an absolute bargain! Thanks again.
