Where's a good place to stay?

I think we have decided to stay in or around Portland. There is shopping for my inlaws and hiking, fishing, and exploring for us. Also things for the kids to do and lots of resturant which we are all looking foward too. We just need to find either a rental house big enough for 6 adult and 3 kids or an afforable hotel. I would prefer one a little for modern and on the beach, not for swimming really more to walk and relax on.

Portland isn't a beach or coastal "vacation destination" really, so you may not find many vacation rentals to suit you right around Portland. Try Pine Point in Scarborough or Cape Elizabeth or Higgins Beach if you want to be near Portland. Also the Sebago Lake area is nice.

We are coming the sumer the summer of 2011. We would like to come when there are some things going on like festivals or something for a large range of age groups.

I can think of a couple cool locations for you to look at: Peaks Island (along with other islands serviced by Casco Bay Lines ferry) and Higgins Beach. Peaks Island is a 20-minute ferry ride from Portland. There are other islands, too, which are even more "laid-back" than Peaks and have fewer people. Long Island, for example has a couple of fabulous beaches; it's a 40-minute ferry ride. Higgins Beach is in Scarborough, 20 minutes to Portland. Lots of summer cottages available for rent there.

Hi...I have an extended stay question I was hoping you could help me with. My wife and I are going to spend the month of July in Portland next year. I was looking at some 1 bedroom furnished rentals at PortlandMaineRentals.com.

They mention 3 districts: historic old port and arts, the West End (State St & Park St) and East End/Eastern Promenade. They also mention some properties on Cumberland and Morning St.

We're looking for something quiet, safe, fun with things and shopping to walk to. We spent 2 months in the heart of downtown Portland Oregon and loved it. What would be your best recommendation for a neighborhood or part of town to locate ourselves in Portland Maine?

Inmauinow....

You might want to consider re-posing your question as a separate post of its own.....that way the responses to your inquiries won't get intermixed with answers for ashley2169.....easier for you, and those trying to help you, to keep track of both discussions.
