Portland traffic

We are scheduled to pick up our hire car at the Enterprise office in Marginal Way Portland at 12 noon on the 10th of September. We will be heading out to Sebago lakes and plan to visit Portland a few days later. Can we expect heavy traffic at that time. It will be the better half's first day of driving on the opposite side of the road. He has done this many times before but is on edge for a couple of hours until he gets used to it. Ideally it is best to start off in minimal traffic but of course this is not always possible.

Not sure what the Fall sports schedule may be, but absent a major sporting event at Fitzpatrick Stadium or Hadlock Field, two major sports venues in Portland, traffic on a Saturday noon will likely be what I would call moderate.... Certainly not as bad as a weekday morning or evening rush hour. From Marginal Way, a local mixed-use area with light-to-moderate traffic, you'll be turning onto Forest Avenue, a four-lane, non-divided roadway with two lanes of traffic in each direction....should make it a bit easier to remember which side of the road to be on.... After a mile or so, your route may vary depending just where in the Sebago region you're headed. But by then, you'll be heading away from Portalnd's city center.,,, so things should be getting easier, at least until you come to the next town along the way, and by then whoever is driving should be getting accustomed to driving on "our" side of the road.

As far as coming back into Portland later in your visit, unless you're coming into town between 7:00 and 9:00AM or 4:00-to-6:00PM, shouldn't really be all that bad..... Would avoid those times if you can because that's when commuter traffic is at its worst.
