Where to look for housing outside of portland

So we waited too long and now the downtown hotels are obscenely expensive and the B&Bs are sold out. We are coming up the first weekend in August and wonder where else to look for a place to stay near Portland? Thanks!

Have you looked in South Portland? Very Close to the city. Also vrbo.com

Freeport is generally less expensive and only a 15 minute drive from Portland.

You could also try AirBNB. With this online service you might be able to find a good rental in a nice neighborhood such as Munjoy Hill. They have a number of nice listings for the Portland area:

This is a great service to find a "home away from home" style of lodging.

Usually you can get by just find without AC, We don't have it all summer. But every now and then we got a hot day and suffer a little without the AC. If a place you are looking at doesn't have AC, just make sure they have a good fan.

It's fairly typical to NOT have central air conditioning in private homes in Maine. Until recent years, one could always count on the nights cooling off dramatically. Often by noon, it's warmer outside than it is in most people's homes because of that nice night-time natural cooling.

Thanks all.

We found something on airb&b with AC. We went on vacation about 20 years ago in North Carolina - rented a huge house with extended family and there were record high temps.. No AC in the house and we bought the local hardware store out of fans!
