Marriott Hotel near Strathmore

We are going to a show at the Strathmore. Which Marriott hotel would you recommend, the Bethesda Marriott on Pooks Hill or the North Bethesda Marriott on Marinelli. Each one is about a mile away from the Strathmore. It looks like the North Bethesda is newer and a more convenient location, and has slightly better reviews here on TA.. We also may go for a run on the Rock Creek Trail, Any suggestions.

I'd lean towards the one on Marinelli. It is a fairly new property and is by far the better location given its proximity next to Metro and the ability to walk to retail/restaurants.

That having been said, the one on Pooks Hill tends to have better pricing on weekends, I believe parking is free here (think you need to pay at Marinelli), and any location disadvantages can be alleviated with about three minutes of driving--if you have a car.

While Pooks Hill is only a mile to Strathmore and even closer (as the crow flies) to the Trail, getting to either one on foot isn't highly recommended--Rockville Pike (a.k.a. Md. Rt. 355) is not very pedestrian-friendly in this area.

In the end, with a car, you'll do fine at either. Without a car, you will feel stranded at Pooks Hill and it's a no-brainer that you want to stay at Marinelli. Being a local, I can't personally vouch for any more than the locations or public spaces at each, but we have had overnight guests stay at both and had no complaints about the guest rooms or service either way.
