No price drop in hotels the week of August 27th?

We usually go to Myrtle Beach from Ontario Canada in August.

We decided this year to go to Ocean City because we have never been there and crime is increasing daily in the tourist area of MB.

I thought the week of the 27th would be cheaper as families have finished their holidays and kids are back in school. I have not have any lucky finding an oceanfront hotel for under $150 US (which is $210 Canadian dollars) in the area of 30 st or lower. I picked that area based on the boardwalk area as stated in this forum. Should I give up, wait until the date gets closer and just accepted that is the rate?

Thoughts? Recs?

By the way in MB for that week ocean front runs $85 per night or lower in a decent tourist area.

Not this year for sure. New law in Md. that kids don't start school until after Labor Day, so there's no reason for hotels or anyone else to drop prices. And anymore, OC goes strong until the end of September.

30th St. will only get you to the top end of the boardwalk and there's nothing there other than condos hotels. There are no rides or games or shops on that end. All of the rides, games, etc are below 1st St. But the good news is that Ocean City has one main street so no matter where you stay in OC, it's extremely easy to get anywhere in town, especially the boardwalk. There is a large parking lot next to the active end of the boardwalk.

What about a condo? They're usually less expensive for a week than a hotel.

Myrtle Beach is okay, but don't forget, that's peak hurricane season for MB too. Not saying that OC doesn't get storms, but doesn't get a full hit from hurricanes. If it's worth it to you to drive that far to save money, go for it! You're not going to find any hotel oceanfront in OC for that price, even off season.

Have you tried punching in your dates into any of these sites below. I wouldn't worry about being 30th st and lower as OC is easy to navigate around town.

Click my links and see what's available and you can always ask about certain hotels.

Condos are definitely cheaper at the end of August than they are now. No idea about hotels

some hotels do go down a little bit towards the end of august but you wont see a significant drop until after labor day. Next time you are planning a trip make your reservations early in the year. Many hotels do an early bird booking special until like march or april. so for instance our upcoming august trip was booked in march and because of that we are saving 10%

Schools in Maryland will be opening after Labor Day this year, something that was done back in the 60s and 70s but had fallen out of favor until this season. One of the prime reasons for the late start was Ocean City lobbying that an extra week of vacation would result in much more tax revenue for the state so don't expect anything to be cheaper in August than the rest of the summer.

The condos are definitely cheaper in the second half of August. Take a look at cbvacations.com. They have a huge inventory.
